A Few Things I’m Thankful For This Thanksgiving

As Thanksgiving approaches, I’ve been thinking about the things I’m grateful for, and being a real estate agent is definitely on that list.

Not necessarily for the houses I’ve sold or the transactions I’ve closed (although those things are helpful to my finances), but for what this career has brought into my life.

I’m thankful for the flexibility it gives me to spend time with my five grandkids. Those moments are precious, and having a career that allows me to work around them is something I never take for granted.

I’m thankful for the connections. Over the years, I’ve met and stayed connected with so many wonderful people I might never have crossed paths with otherwise.  I’ve also reconnected with people from my past that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise, and it’s been so fun!

And I’m thankful for the opportunity to walk alongside people during some of life’s bigger decisions. Buying or selling a home is about so much more than real estate. It’s about new beginnings, changes, dreams, and sometimes a little uncertainty. Being invited to be part of that journey is something that fills my cup to the brim.

But there’s another thing I’m thankful for: the way life sometimes unfolds in ways we couldn’t have planned.

In 2019, I decided I wanted to get my real estate license. I honestly couldn’t tell you exactly why. I certainly didn’t know that a few years later, a crazy pandemic-fueled real estate market would create an opportunity for me to leave my full-time career in healthcare administration and pursue real estate full time.

It hasn’t always been easy. There are difficult days and challenges, just as there are with anything worthwhile. But looking back, I can see how this path opened up to fit the life I didn’t even know was waiting for me.

And maybe that’s something worth remembering. Sometimes we take a step without knowing where it will lead, and somehow, along the way, it all begins to make sense.

So this Thanksgiving, I’m grateful for the career, the people, the flexibility, the unexpected opportunities, and the life it’s allowed me to build.

And I’m especially grateful that I took that first step back in 2019.
