The Little Things That Make a House Feel Like Home….

I’ve walked through a lot of homes over the years, and one thing I’ve noticed is that it’s rarely the biggest or fanciest features that make a home memorable.

Sometimes it’s something really simple.

It’s the way the morning light comes through the kitchen window. It’s a backyard that makes you immediately picture summer evenings with family and friends. It’s a front porch that makes you think, I could see myself sitting here with a cup of coffee. Or maybe it’s the kitchen island where everyone seems to gather, no matter how much room is elsewhere in the house.

I think that’s what makes real estate so much more than buying and selling houses. It’s about imagining your life there. Sometimes a home checks all the boxes on paper isn’t the one that steals your heart. The feeling that says, this one could be home.

A house doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t have to have the newest finishes or the biggest backyards. The homes we love most have personality, memories and a little bit of us woven into them. At the end of the day, a house is where you live, but a home is where life happens.

Hearing about those features and experiences and helping people find new ones is one of my favorite things about my career. What is your favorite feature of your home? What memory in your home would you cherish most if you moved? Chances are it’s not the square footage, number of bedrooms, type of countertop stone. Let me know in the comments your favorite thing about your home.
